Kinnikuman, also known as Kinniku Suguru, is not your typical superhero, or Choujin. He is cowardly, clumsy, and not the brightest bulb, often found devouring gyuudon. However, he is the prince of an alien planet and surprisingly honorable. When the situation calls for it, he can become quite powerful. Alongside his sidekick Meat-kun and fellow Choujins Terryman and Ramenman, Suguru strives to become the greatest Choujin on the planet. He often defeats villains who are ten times more powerful than him using his tremendous heart and stamina, known as The Burning Inner Strength, or the "Power of Friendship”. Kinnikuman has a tendency to turn enemies into allies, and though he appears to be forever an idiot, he slowly but surely proves himself worthy of the title "Hero". A 22-year gap in publication occurred between volumes 36 and 37, but the series restarted with a new version from volume 38 onwards in 2011. The manga won the 30th Shogakukan Manga Award for best children's manga in 1984.
